Published on the occasion of the 36th Bienal de São Paulo, Not All Traveller Walk Roads – Of Humanity as Practice (September 6, 2025–January 11, 2026), the publication follows the exhibition’s curatorial structure across six chapters and brings together texts on the artists and projects presented, alongside information on the exhibition design, the Invocations, and the Tributaries.
For the catalogue, Mateus Nunes wrote texts on the practices of six artists and collectives: Rebeca Carapiá, Juliana dos Santos, Sérgio Soarez, Metta Pracrutti, Michele Ciacciofera, and Gervane de Paula. His texts address, among other aspects, the aerial roots of the paxiúba palm and the ideas of movement and ancestry in Carapiá’s work; the relationship between the blue of Clitoria ternatea, the Afro-diasporic experience, and the transmission of knowledge in Juliana dos Santos’s practice; the intersections of Yoruba cosmologies, the African diaspora, geometry, and assemblage in Sérgio Soarez’s production; the structures of caste, resistance, and collectivity mobilized by the collective Metta Pracrutti; and, in the work of Gervane de Paula, the relations between territory, socio-environmental violence, agribusiness, and geographical marginalization.
The image of the estuary, a place where different currents meet, intermingle, and transform, serves as a metaphor for an exhibition grounded in listening, negotiation, and coexistence among distinct perspectives, geographies, and temporalities. The exhibition is organized into six chapters, resisting a single narrative while embracing multiple forms of experience and knowledge.
